Dental Services in Sidney, BC

Dental Hygiene

Thorough, unhurried cleanings from experienced hygienists — whether we're your dental home or you just need a cleaning between visits elsewhere.

Your Dentist Is Great — But Their Hygiene Waitlist Isn't

Many of our patients already have a family dentist they love — they just can't get a hygiene appointment for months. At Sidney by the Sea Dental Hygiene Clinic, you can book directly with our hygiene team without switching dentists or getting a referral. We serve patients across Sidney and the Saanich Peninsula, and we're happy to send notes back to your provider, if you'd like.

A Calmer, More Personal Cleaning Experience

With a smaller, two-chair clinic and experienced hygienists offering dental hygiene services in Sidney, we offer a quieter, more private experience with more time and attention for each patient. Whether it's been six months or a few years since your last cleaning, you'll be met with a calm, judgment-free approach — never rushed, never pressured.

What to Expect at Your Professional Teeth Cleaning

Your professional teeth cleaning appointment includes a thorough cleaning of all tooth surfaces and along the gumline, removal of tartar buildup, polishing, a gum health assessment, and personalized home care tips. We focus on keeping your teeth and gums healthy — we don't believe in upselling treatment plans you don't need.

Appointment Length

New patient dental hygiene appointments are scheduled for approximately 90 minutes. Returning patient teeth cleaning appointments are scheduled for approximately 70 minutes.

frequently asked questions

What's the difference between a regular cleaning and a deep cleaning?

The honest answer is that there really isn't a difference between the two. Our experienced hygienists ensure that you receive a thorough cleaning, whether the tartar is built up above the gumline or below. "Deep Cleaning" is a bit of a buzzword and sometimes refers to when the hygienist uses manual tools to scrape the tartar off the root surface of a tooth. Wherever the tartar is stuck, it is necessary to remove.

What should I expect at my first hygiene appointment?

Your first visit typically includes a review of your dental history, a gentle cleaning to remove plaque and tartar, polishing, and a discussion of any areas that need extra attention at home.

Do you see emergency dental patients?

We do our best to accommodate urgent dental issues — call our office directly and let us know you're dealing with a dental emergency so we can find you the earliest available appointment.

What should I bring to my first appointment as a new patient?

Please bring your dental insurance information and a list of any medications you're currently taking.

Do you accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)?

Yes, we accept CDCP and offer direct billing for eligible patients, so you won't need to pay upfront and claim it back yourself.

How often should I get my teeth professionally cleaned?

Many patients benefit from a professional cleaning at least every six months, though many more people with gum disease, a higher risk of cavities, or simply a faster rate of tartar buildup may need visits every three to four months. Often as we age, our mouths become dryer, which leads to higher rate of cavities and tartat buildup. Our dental hygienists in Sidney can recommend a schedule based on your specific oral health.

Do you offer direct billing to insurance?

Yes, we direct bill most major insurance providers, so you typically only pay the portion not covered by your plan.

Are you accepting new patients in Sidney?

Yes, we're currently welcoming new patients at our Sidney, BC dental clinic. You can book online or call our office to get started.

Do you offer dental hygiene appointments without seeing a dentist first?

Yes — you can book directly with one of our dental hygienists for a cleaning without a separate dentist exam, though we'll always flag anything that needs a dentist's attention. Many of our patients prefer to see their regular dentist for checkups and come to us for cleanings because our office is calmer and the schedule is more accessible.
