Tooth Extractions / Wisdom Tooth Removal
Sometimes a tooth needs to come out — whether it's a wisdom tooth, a damaged tooth, or one that can't be saved. We handle most extractions right here in Sidney, and we make the process as straightforward and comfortable as possible.
When Does a Tooth Need to Come Out?
Extraction is always a last resort. We'll always explore whether a tooth can be saved before recommending removal. That said, some situations do call for extraction — including teeth that are too damaged or decayed to restore, teeth that are causing crowding or affecting neighbouring teeth, and wisdom teeth that are impacted, infected, or coming in at a problematic angle.
Wisdom Teeth
Wisdom teeth — the third molars at the back of the mouth — typically emerge in the late teens or early twenties. Many people don't have enough room for them to come in properly, which can cause pain, infection, crowding, or damage to neighbouring teeth. In some cases wisdom teeth come in without issue and can be left in place — we'll give you an honest assessment.
What to Expect
We start with an exam and x-rays to understand exactly what we're dealing with. Simple extractions are performed right here in our Sidney office under local anaesthetic. More complex cases — including deeply impacted wisdom teeth — may require referral to an oral surgeon. We'll let you know during your assessment so there are no surprises.
Recovery
Most patients recover within a few days to a couple of weeks, depending on the complexity of the tooth extraction. Dr. Andrews will give you clear aftercare instructions before you leave, and we're always available if you have questions during recovery.
